The Tuan Chau Corporation, which manages the only tourist wharf for trips out to Halong Bay and nearby Bai Tu Long Bay, Tuan Chau Wharf, has announced it will double entry fees for visitors to VND40,000 ($1.75). The entry fee includes free water and wi-fi at the wharf, which can handle about 2,000 boats, or ten times more than the old one, and can berth large vessels. Halong Bay, a UNESCO world heritage site, and Bai Tu Long, to its northeast, are popular destinations in northern Vietnam and the main attractions in Quang Ninh province, welcoming 8.3 million tourists last year, 42% of them foreigners.

The Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee has approved a proposal from Hai Au Aviation to introduce seaplane flights from Halong city to Co To Island next summer. The company plans to use a 12-seat seaplane, with a flight time of 15 to 17 minutes. Passengers will be given a spectacular view over Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. The trip currently takes more than one and a half hours by speedboat. The flights will contribute to diversifying tourism products within the province’s development strategy to become an international-class tourism hub. Co To Island features some of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam, with clean blue waters, smooth white sand, golden sunlight, and green mountains and forests. It has become a popular site for domestic tourists but remains largely unknown among foreign tourists.

Quang Ninh provincial authorities in Halong City have requested providers of tours to Halong Bay list their service prices in Vietnamese, English and Chinese and that tours be sold in line with these listed prices. Any service provider that does not list their prices as regulated or cooperates with travel agencies or tour guides to overcharge customers will be suspended for at least three months. The move aims to provide foreign visitors with better service quality and to present a good image of the city.

Heritage Cruises of Heritage Dragon and Heritage Phoenix had the keel-laying ceremony of Heritage Cruises on 19 October at Vietnam's Nam Phat shipyard in Quang Ninh Province.

Heritage Cruises derives inspiration for its boutique concept and design from the heritage ships of the patriotic entrepreneur Bach Thai Buoi, who transformed transportation on the waterways of Tonkin in the north of Vietnam in the early 20th century. The vessels feature 20 cabins spread over three decks, two restaurants, indoor and outdoor lounges, gym, game room, gallery, bars, spa, and the first on-board swimming pool in the Halong Bay region. The first two cruise ships have been named after the Phi Long and Phi Phuong, the very first cruise ships among 30 owned by Bach Thai Buoi, who was referred to as the King of Ocean and River Cruises in Vietnam in the bygone century.
