    The Trang An scenic landscape complex in northern Ninh Binh province will be expanded under a recent government master plan. The total natural land area will span over 12,252 ha in Ninh Binh city, Tam Diep township, and the districts of Hoa Lu, Gia Vien, and Nho Quan, with half being the complex and the other half the surrounding area, sitting within 20 local communes and precincts. Trang An is home to around 500 flora species, 73 species of birds, and 41 species of other animals, with a diverse ecosystem and unique geological characteristics. It boasts several nationally-recognised sites, such as the Trang An ecotourism site and Hoa Lu, Vietnam’s capital in the 10th and 11th centuries. It also has many temples, pagodas, paddy fields, villages and sacred sites and was recognised by UNESCO as a Cultural and Natural World Heritage Site in 2014.

    The northern province of Ninh Binh, one of the shooting locations for the 2017 Hollywood blockbuster ‘Kong: Skull Island’, has decided to open the film set to tourists. Fans of the movie can visit the tribal village where the film’s protagonists seek refuge from monsters. Rattan huts have been set up with all kinds of decorative items. Models of a ship and aeroplane resembling those in the film will also be on display.

    The film set tour will be part of a package of activities for visitors to the Trang An tourism complex, which also includes an expedition to local caves. The movie was also filmed in the central province of Quang Binh and Halong Bay. It was released in March and crossed the $500 million-mark at the worldwide box office. Director and screenwriter, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, has been named Vietnam’s tourism ambassador.

    A travel website was recently introduced by Hoa Lu University in northern Ninh Binh province to provide information and consultancy to tourists about the local area.

    At www.tuvandulichninhbinh.com.vn is useful information on destinations, accommodation, tour programs, food, souvenirs, entertainment, and virtual tours through 360° photos. Visitors to the website can also send questions to receive consultancy from local tourism specialists. In Vietnamese and English, the website will support not only tourists but also managers and enterprises in tourism and hospitality.

    Northern Ninh Binh province has officially launched a smart tourism portal at visitninhbinh.vn/, with many services for tourists, enterprises, and State management agencies and with more than 200 hotels, restaurants and other tourism service providers participating.

    The portal will help users search for information on accommodation, food, destinations, shops, entertainment, travel and events. The integration of digital maps also makes it easy for travellers to find their way, search for nearby attractions, and create their own schedule. It will also provide data on users, businesses, news, events and photos and allow feedback and suggestions from tourists about the quality of services, contributing to making appropriate adjustments to existing strategies.

    This is the first step by the province in building a smart tourism system in the 2018-2020 period, turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector.
