Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed to upgrade Vinh Airport in Vinh city, Nghe An province in north-central Vietnam into an international airport in the 2015-2030 period. Last year Vinh Airport welcomed 1.25 million passengers. Its average growth in the last 13 years has been 43.9%; the highest in the country. According to the overall planning for Vinh Airport, which was approved by the Ministry of Transport in 2006 and adjusted in 2011, it was to welcome 2.5 million passengers in 2025. However, based on figures from recent years the number of passengers using the airport will reach 2.5 million by 2020 and as many as 7 million by 2030. Vietnam currently has 12 domestic airports and ten international airports but only four of the latter serve international flights: Tan Son Nhat (HCMC), Noi Bai (Hanoi), Danang, and Cam Ranh (Nha Trang).
