Daily tours to Hung Kings’ land underway

A new daily tour from Hanoi to the northern province of Phu Tho, the land of the legendary Hung Kings, has been launched recently. The tour includes a visit to the Hung Temple relic site, the Hung Kings Museum, Hung Lo Ancient Village, and Lai Len Temple. Visitors can enjoy local traditional Xoan singing, which was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritages of humanity last year. The tour is aimed at diversifying local tourism products for the purpose of turning the provincial capital Viet Tri into the city of festivals, according to the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The Hung Kings Festival is held annually from the eighth to the eleventh day of the third lunar month (starting April 25 this year) and is in honour of the legendary founders of the nation. The main festival day has been a public holiday in Vietnam since 2007.

The festival is held annually to honour the Hung Kings, who founded the Van Lang State (2879 BC). It offers an opportunity for Vietnamese people to visit their fatherland and is regarded as a nationwide event, with representatives from the government taking part in the incense offering ceremony. It involves a procession with bronze drums and other traditional entertainment such as circular and vertical swings, a sword dance, and a Xoan folk song contest. Free entry.
