Fare with care

Like many Asians, Japanese people value food for its health-giving properties. Eating is as respected as art, a way to express the national character as much as to fill the stomach, and as interesting as reading a good book.

The food at the newly-opened Kim Sushi is nicely presented on Japanese-style ceramic dishes or on wooden trays. On a mixed tray of sashimi, some red Hokkaido clam pieces lay on a carpet of green grape-algae next to a white ‘flower’ cut from radish and topped with salmon egg, while a beautiful leaf made from pineapple leaves divides a clam next to three pieces of octopus.

The décor and architecture are as impressive as the food, featuring a glass bar where fresh raw ingredients for sashimi is on display. There are also high wooden stools, Japanese-style black cotton curtains, red lanterns adorning the walls, and various bottles of sake at the bar - all providing a truly Japanese atmosphere.

The price for a mixed tray of 22 sashimi and sushi pieces is VND525,000, VND395,000 for 16 pieces, and VND305,000 for 12 pieces. Unagi Kabayaki (grilled eel with Teriyaki sauce) is VND315,000 a dish, Tekka Don (rice with tuna fish) is VND185,000 a bowl, and Miso ramen is VND85,000/ bowl.
