  • First night pedestrian malls open in Cao Bang and Vinh

    The first night-time pedestrian malls have been opened in Cao Bang city in the northern province of the same name and Vinh city in north-central Nghe An province.

    In Cao Bang, the pedestrian mall and food market along Kim Dong Street is open from 7pm to 11pm every Friday and Saturday, with 70 stalls serving local specialties and souvenirs. There are also cultural activities, street art, and folk games.

    The pedestrian mall in Vinh is along Cao Thang Street and open from 6.30pm to 11pm daily. There are 114 stalls with snacks and drinks, local specialties, footwear, clothing, souvenirs, and cultural and arts activities.

    The new vehicle-free streets aim to provide residents and visitors more entertainment at night as well as promote the local cultural identity, cuisine, and specialties.

  • Vinh Airport to be upgraded to international

    Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed to upgrade Vinh Airport in Vinh city, Nghe An province in north-central Vietnam into an international airport in the 2015-2030 period. Last year Vinh Airport welcomed 1.25 million passengers. Its average growth in the last 13 years has been 43.9%; the highest in the country. According to the overall planning for Vinh Airport, which was approved by the Ministry of Transport in 2006 and adjusted in 2011, it was to welcome 2.5 million passengers in 2025. However, based on figures from recent years the number of passengers using the airport will reach 2.5 million by 2020 and as many as 7 million by 2030. Vietnam currently has 12 domestic airports and ten international airports but only four of the latter serve international flights: Tan Son Nhat (HCMC), Noi Bai (Hanoi), Danang, and Cam Ranh (Nha Trang).
