    Piano recital by Dang Thai Son

    People’s Artist Dang Thai Son will hold two piano recitals featuring French music (9 March) and works by Chopin (10 March) at the Hanoi Opera House with Japan’s xxx [LC1] as conductor. The program features Symphony No. 8 in G Major Op. 88 by A. Dvorak, Ballade Op. 19 by Gabriel Faure, Piano concerto for the left handed pianist by Maurice Ravel, and Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor by Chopin. The artist was awarded the First Prize and Gold Medal at the Tenth International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in October 1980 - the first time a top international competition was won by an Asian pianist.     Subscription Concert Vol.76 ‘Eine Alpensinfonie’

    On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of German composer Richard Strauss (1864-1949), Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji, horn soloist Premysl Vojta from Staatskapelle, Berlin, and artists from the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra will hold two nights of symphony music at the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi.     Hanoi Opera House open to tourists

    The Hanoi Opera House will begin welcoming tourists from June, with tours of its facilities, history and architecture and some live performances. Located near Hoan Kiem Lake, the 2,600 sq m theatre is a phenomenal piece of neo-classical French architecture, with pillars, shuttered windows, balconies, a mirrored room, and Gothic detailing on its doors and domes and was constructed between 1901 and 1911. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has produced publications, brochures, and souvenirs and trained staff at the Opera House to welcome foreign visitors.

    Europe Gala Concert

    The ‘Europe Gala Concert’ is to feature performances by The Red Socks Brass Quintet from Munich, Germany. The brass ensemble has a wide-ranging repertoire, spanning from old masters such as Bach and Handel to American composers of the 20th century and from jazz to Argentine Tango. The special composition of the ensemble, with five brass instruments, promises an impressive sound. A special highlight of their programme is a performance with traditional Germanalphorns. These unusual wind instruments, up to three metres long, are played in the Alps, with their sound reaching far across the mountain peaks.     French pop singer Sophie Maurin will hold a concert at the Hanoi Opera House featuring songs from her debut album.


  • Special Concert with Gewandhaus Choir

    Conductor Honna Tetsuji, soprano Ha Pham Thang Long, baritone Steven Klose, chorus master Gregor Meyer, the Gewandhaus Choir from Germany and the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet’s Choir will present a special symphony at the Hanoi Opera House. The program features Ein deutsches Requiem op.45 by Johannes Brahms. The Gewandhaus Choir boasts an enviable 150-year history, during which it has always been closely allied to the Gewandhaus Orchestra. The Choir has continually performed under the leading conductors of the day, including such celebrated maestri as the Gewandhauskapellmeister Carl Reinecke, Arthur Nikisch and Franz Konwitschny.   • VNSO 2015 Season Opening Concert

    To open their new season the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Hanoi , will present this important work and others. The famous German oboist Stefan Schilli from Munich has been invited to perform the solo of the Oboe Concerto. This concert is a continuation of the Richard Strauss Cycle, in which a selection of works by the important composer is being performed for the first time in Vietnam.     Vietnamese conductor Dong Quang Minh and artists from the Vietnam Symphony Orchestra and dancers from the Vietnam National Opera Ballet will hold two performance entitled ‘Firebird’ at the Hanoi Opera House. The programme features the ‘Egmont’ Overture, Op.84 in F minor by Beethoven, Symphony No 9 ‘From the New World’, Op.95 in E minor by Antonin Dvorak and the classical ballet ‘Firebird’, with music composed by Igor Stravinsky, choreographed by Lars Anderstam, and directed by Harald Emgard.
