    Artworks made from waste feature in an exhibition of four installation artworks. The Whale, by Pham Thi Hong Sam, highlights uncontrolled whale massacres, while Seed and Sprout by Ha Huy Muoi tells a story about life, movement and development. Missing the Woods by Le Duc Hung raises the alarm about the widespread deforestation that is destroying the ecosystem, and The Society by Yen Nang conveys the message of living with a positive outlook. By using discarded peach branches as the main material for their works, the artists aim to remind communities of a more positive interaction with their ecological and social environment.

    ‘Gang of Five Chancing Modern’

    ‘Gang of Five Chancing Modern’ is an art project surveying the more than 30 years of work of of five Hanoian artists: Hong Viet Dung, Ha Tri Hieu, Dang Xuan Hoa, Tran Luong and Pham Quang Vinh.

    Established in 1983 upon their graduation under the name Gang of Five, they grew and developed their work amid significant socio-historical changes during the post-‘doi moi’ (reform) period in Vietnam. The exhibition presents a selection of paintings from the 1990s to the 2000s that are considered to signify their artistic characteristics. At the same time, a section of the display is dedicated to archival materials (small drawings and sketches, notes, photographs, etc.), to provide a contextual background on the group, through which the public can explore the arts scene of the time.
