Missing the Woods by Le Duc Hung raises the alarm about the widespread deforestation that is destroying the ecosystem, and The Society by Yen Nang conveys the message of living with a positive outlook. By using discarded peach branches as the main material for their works, the artists aim to remind communities of a more positive interaction with their ecological and social environment.

Duc does not care much about the principles of anatomy or graphics but focuses only on the expression of ‘The Mien’ revealed by his subjects. Each portrait presents a unique character associated with a distinctive mental and psychological state yet with a shared commonality: pure and sinless faces.

The Hue-based artist Truong The Linh will also show one of the works of the collection he has spent the past year creating. There will be a couple of surprises at the show, including the latest master work from acclaimed HCMC-based artist Lim Khim Ka Ty. The gallery also welcomes to the gallery’s walls works by the highly regarded Hanoi-based artist Nguyen Trong Minh. Minh is making new work exclusively for the anniversary show and this will be the first time his work has been on public display in HCMC.

    To celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Belgium, a new opera production and a new contemporary dance show will be held featuring artists from the HCMC Ballet and Symphony Orchestra (HSBO) conducted by Tran Nhat Minh. The concert will begin with Dr Norman Ludwin’s orchestral work Growing Orbits. Dr Ludwin is a double bass player who has appeared on the soundtracks of many famous movies and is also an expert in and teacher of orchestration. It will be followed by excerpts from Vietnamese composer Vu Viet Anh’s music for the classic Vietnamese children’s story Adventures of a Cricket (‘De men phieu luu ky’). After the interval is the contemporary dance, a brand-new production of two Dutch choreographies from Gotra Ballet Maite Guerin and Joost Vrouenraets.

    ‘Tra Art’ is a multi-sensory exhibition on Shan tea, wild tea trees grown for hundreds of years by ethnic minorities in northern Ha Giang province. The exhibition will gently awaken our five senses and bring us to the world of Shan tea through different art forms. The Paris-based Vietnamese photographer Nguyen Thi Tuong Van, who raised the idea and created the Tra Art project, brings together five excellent artists from five different fields to give the audience an unprecedented experience: Nguyen Quynh Phuong - animator, Marcus Bowler - 3D artist, the late Gérald Gorridge - painter, Tran Thu Hang - sculptor, and Ngo Hong Quang - artist/musician. After the Change of Guard at Ngo Mon Gate, tourists enter the Imperial City and explore the splendid light arranged from Ngo Mon to Thai Hoa Palace and then move to Duyet Thi Duong Theatre to enjoy an artistic performance called ‘Royal Inspiration’ and finish their journey at Hien Nhon Gate.

    At Duyet Thi Duong, built in 1827 and the oldest theatre in Vietnam, audience members will enjoy artistic performances featuring Court Music and Royal Dance.

    The program takes place nightly with two shows, starting at 6.45pm and 8.15pm.

    Artworks made from waste feature in an exhibition of four installation artworks. The Whale, by Pham Thi Hong Sam, highlights uncontrolled whale massacres, while Seed and Sprout by Ha Huy Muoi tells a story about life, movement and development. Missing the Woods by Le Duc Hung raises the alarm about the widespread deforestation that is destroying the ecosystem, and The Society by Yen Nang conveys the message of living with a positive outlook. By using discarded peach branches as the main material for their works, the artists aim to remind communities of a more positive interaction with their ecological and social environment.

    Craig Thomas Gallery is introducing the 9th Anniversary Group Exhibition to showcase new works by the many artists that will be having solo exhibitions at the gallery in the ensuing 12 months. Among the artists are long-time gallery favourites like Luong Luu Bien, Pham Huy Thong, Lieu Nguyen and Nguyen Minh Nam. The Hue-based artist Truong The Linh will also show one of the works of the collection he has spent the past year creating. There will be a couple of surprises at the show, including the latest master work from acclaimed HCMC-based artist Lim Khim Ka Ty. The gallery also welcomes to the gallery’s walls works by the highly regarded Hanoi-based artist Nguyen Trong Minh. Minh is making new work exclusively for the anniversary show and this will be the first time his work has been on public display in HCMC.

    ‘The Sojourners’ is a contemporary exhibition by a group of foreign artists who have taken their inspiration from the natural beauty and culture of Vietnam. The artists are all ‘sojourners’ themselves - people who are residing long term but temporarily in Vietnam. Their diverse artworks reflect their Vietnamese experience, weaving the beauty and culture of the country into their distinctive visual and audio works. Comprising a collection of drawings, paintings, mixed media works, augmented reality, photographs and video art, ‘The Sojourners’ exhibition will captivate guests with its beauty and diversity.

  • Royal Inspiration at Hue Imperial City by Night

    ‘Royal Inspiration’ is a special art show to present royal culture and music under Nguyen Dynasty. The program will be carried out on the main axis called Ngo Mon - Thai Hoa - Duyet Thi Duong. After the Change of Guard at Ngo Mon Gate, tourists enter the Imperial City and explore the splendid light arranged from Ngo Mon to Thai Hoa Palace and then move to Duyet Thi Duong Theatre to enjoy an artistic performance called ‘Royal Inspiration’ and finish their journey at Hien Nhon Gate.

    At Duyet Thi Duong, built in 1827 and the oldest theatre in Vietnam, audience members will enjoy artistic performances featuring Court Music and Royal Dance.

    The program takes place nightly with two shows, starting at 6.45pm and 8.15pm.

  • ‘The Mien’ Solo Exhibition

    Self-expression is the artistic perspective thoroughly reflected in all 60 artworks on display at this solo exhibition by artist Le Minh Duc. Thirty portraits present his artistic view. Duc does not care much about the principles of anatomy or graphics but focuses only on the expression of ‘The Mien’ revealed by his subjects. Each portrait presents a unique character associated with a distinctive mental and psychological state yet with a shared commonality: pure and sinless faces.
