Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, will celebrate 40 years of liberation on April 30. The 300-year-old city is now the largest and most modern in Vietnam, and has always been known as a liberal and generous land that welcomes all comers. The beauty of HCMC, both old and new, together with its dynamic changes, are being presented in a selected collection of 40 black & white photos from the past 20 years (1995 to present), at an exhibition entitled ‘Chao Saigon’ by Vietnamese photographer Nguyen Thanh Tung.

Chao Saigon is a story told by images about life in HCMC, featuring landscapes and people, from old architectural works dating from French colonial times, old apartment buildings, crowded markets and bus stations in the early 1990s to skyscrapers and modern bridges - symbols of the modern city, from splendid landscapes to moments in the simple daily lives of poor workers such as vendors and bus drivers, and from the fresh smiles of schoolgirls to the interesting experiences of foreigners from all over the world visiting the city.

Chao Saigon is open to the public from 3 April to 3 May, at Workshop, 27 Ngo Duc Ke, D.1
