Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recently agreed with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s proposal to include south-central Phu Yen province in a tourism infrastructure development project being funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the expectation that tourism will contribute at least 10% to GDP.

Phu Yen has potential for the development of improved infrastructure and tourism could become a spearhead economic sector in the future. The province must build a strong brand name and push ahead with institutional reform and ensure environmental hygiene. Travel companies must develop human resources and increase regional connectivity. Local authorities need to focus on evaluating the environmental impacts and protecting the local habitat, especially in coastal, residential and industrial areas. Phu Yen remains behind other localities nationwide due to its low and unsustainable economic growth and shortcomings in its industrial economy.
